Belonging shapes how people participate, contribute, and connect. It influences trust, collaboration, and whether individuals feel safe bringing their full perspective into a space.

In this 2 hrs. workshop, Hanan Chebib and Laura Lee Ross guide participants through a collaborative, story-driven experience focused on how belonging forms and how it can be supported through intentional design choices. Through storytelling, hands-on activities, and shared reflection, participants will explore the science behind belonging and examine how everyday interactions, systems, and assumptions either strengthen or weaken it.

The workshop is designed to enable everyone to contribute, regardless of background or experience level. Rather than offering a single framework or checklist, this session creates space to think together, learn from one another, and reflect on how we show up in our work and communities.

Dinner included, we will do our best to accommodate food restrictions/allergies.

## What you will explore

• Why belonging matters at a human level
• How meaningful connections emerge in groups
• Design approaches that support inclusion, trust, and participation
• Ways to re-examine our own thinking to create more meaningful interactions. This workshop is for practitioners who want to design experiences that help people feel connected, respected, and able to contribute in ways that matter.

Join us on the afternoon of February 26 at J5 Design.

## Our Speakers

Hanan Chebib (She/Her)
Founder and Lead Experience Designer at Social Studies Lab

Hanan founded Social Studies Lab, and is an award-winning creator of live experiences, programs and projects.

She brings a culmination of 19 years of experience with an openness to creating something delightfully new. Hanan is a member of the WXO and Anthropology in Praxis.

She is deeply curious about what makes humans tick. She is especially interested in humans’ best traits. Traits like: why humans delight in strangers even though we believe otherwise; how we are wired for the survival of the friendliness, not the fittest; and why values make us who we are. More importantly how those impact how we design for work and play.
