A Monthly Community Series by Calgary UX
How do UX designers stay human-centred in an AI-powered world?
Human In The Loop is a monthly meetup where Calgary UX designers explore the evolving relationship between Generative AI and User Experience.

Special guest:
Kush Gabani (He/Him)
Co-Founder & CTO @ Workers

Description of the talk:
Most AI workflows stop at prompts and outputs, prioritizing speed over taste. We’ll explore why this leads to sameness in UI and how we, as designers, can shift from generating options to actively directing AI toward more intentional, coherent design outcomes.

------------------

From creative workflows to ethical questions, each session invites designers of all levels to share ideas, test tools, and shape the future of design—together.
Whether you're experimenting with prompts, integrating AI into your prototyping, or just AI-curious—this space is for you.

### What to Expect:

  • Show & Tell: Real stories from local designers using Gen AI in their work
  • AI Playgrounds: Exploration of tools like ChatGPT, Figma Make, Midjourney, ConfyUI, etc.
  • Open Discussions: Ethics, creativity, automation, and how AI is reshaping UX work
  • Community Connections: Learn from peers and build lasting relationships

### Topics We Will Not Cover

While we encourage exploration and discussion, this series will not focus on:

  • AI development from a purely engineering or ML model perspective
  • Hype-based or uncritical promotion of AI tools
  • “Growth hacks” or deceptive UX tactics powered by AI
  • Uses of AI that prioritize automation over human well-being
  • Corporate AI sales pitches or sponsored tool demos (unless transparently disclosed)

### Unethical Uses of Gen AI We Actively Discourage

We aim to create a responsible design culture. These uses will be critically examined and not promoted:

  • Designing deceptive interfaces (dark patterns) powered by AI
  • Using AI-generated data or personas without consent or context
  • Automating emotional manipulation (e.g., fake empathy in chatbots)
  • Generating content that disrespects intellectual property or plagiarizes
  • Replacing inclusive design or accessibility efforts with generic AI outputs
  • Deploying AI tools that reinforce bias, discrimination, or inequity
  • Misrepresenting AI-generated work as fully human-created
  • Using Gen AI to replace human roles without ethical consideration of impact
