Alabama Hills – April 17–19, 2026
Details
ALABAMA HILLS ADVENTURE — April 17–19, 2026
Camp among giant boulders beneath the Sierra Nevada, explore desert arches, and watch the sunset with Mount Whitney towering in the background.
Let’s go explore one of the most incredible landscapes in California!
The Alabama Hills area features massive rounded boulders, arches, and incredible views of the Sierra Nevada with Mount Whitney towering in the background. It’s a great place to camp under the stars and explore the desert landscape.
This will be dispersed camping/boondocking — no amenities provided (no running water, electricity, or trash service).
Access: The roads in the area are mostly dirt and can be washboard in some places. Most passenger vehicles should be fine if driven slowly, but higher clearance is always helpful. Please do your own research before responding to make sure you can make it around. CCA will not be responsible for any damages/vehicle issues with your car.

PLAN
FRIDAY (4/17):
Arrival day. We will meet up at 11:30am at Movie Flats area right off of Whitney Portal Rd. Once there we will begin to explore the area and find a suitable campsite to accommodate all our vehicles. You don't have to meet up with the group, you can just meet us directly at the campsite. We will camp at either one of these locations, whichever is free and can accommodate larger group: 1. Among boulders in Alabama Hills or 2. At the foothills of the mountains or 3. Tuttle Creek campground if all else fails (that one will be paid so please have some cash on you). Once we a have a camp site selected, I will update the Meetup page withe the coordinates. I will also be available via Radio on channel 6. At night we will have a campfire going. We'll hang out, play games, talk etc. You're welcome to bring your own beer/food/drinks or whatever you like.
SATURDAY (4/18):
Everyone is free to explore however they like. Joining the group is completely optional feel free to explore on your own schedule. I will likely drive around a bit, explore some of the hills, and maybe do a short hike. You're welcome to join in (you will have to drive your own vehicle, I don't have space in mine, or ask your fellow campers for a ride).
At night we’ll have a campfire going (unless prohibited, then I will bring a propane pit), hang out, play some games, and relax. Bring your favorite games, snacks, beer, cocktails or whatever you'd like. This is a relaxing trip. Politics these days can be quite divisive so please keep your thoughts to yourself.
SUNDAY (4/19):
Explore the Alabama Hills area, relax at camp, or head home whenever you're ready.
