We will hike the loop trail (2.3 miles) at Olompali and look for the last of the Milk Maids and Shooting Stars. We will see Indian paintbrush, seven species of ferns, the California state lichen, lace lichen and the California state grass, purple needle grass. We will also see the rare Napa false indigo shrub, California fescue grasslands, and 5 species of oaks including blue oak and Oregon white oak. The trail is relatively level with a somewhat steep part at the beginning.
Directions: The entrance is at the end of Redwood Boulevard. From either north or south on Highway 101, take the Atherton/San Marin exit and proceed west and then turn right (north) onto Redwood Boulevard which is the first street west of the freeway. Meet in the parking lot. Parking at Olompali costs $8 ($7 for seniors). Check out free State Park passes from your local library.
Bring: Water, a snack/lunch. Dress in layers.
Rain cancels. Check Meetup for notification.
