“JIT compilation and adaptive compilation have allowed the creation of higher performance implementation of object-oriented languages on conventional processors. This talk explores a processor designed specially for Smalltalk-80 (called SiliconSqueak) which can also take
advantage of the compilation technology and the fact that it is built on reconfigurable components (FPGAs) to change the hardware as needed at runtime.”
