The Future of the Web - Reinstalling the Big Missing Feature of the Web

Details
California Software Professional Association (www.cspa.com) is honored to have the Overweb team speak to us on the Future of the Web.
Marc Andreessen says the web has a BIG missing feature - Annotation. The ability to layer knowledge on web pages was always supposed to be part of the web, but Netscape dumped it in 1995 because of commercial and tech reasons.
The lack of annotation makes the web static. This enabled the web to be captured by Internet Platforms, which treat people and information as commodities from which they extract value.
But do we accept a future where we are working for technology rather than the other way around?
A better future of the web is possible. The Overweb is the next level of the web - a trust layer over the webpage that enables people to go visible and layers knowledge and interactions on webpages. Over any content on a webpage, there can be worlds of information, interactions, transactions, and experiences. This innovation creates the possibility of privacy, data sovereignty, and neutralizing misinformation, while enabling dynamic web experiences, safe digital nations, and fair value exchange on the web.
The first Overweb applications were Mosaic and Netscape (beta) in 1993-1995 as well as modern annotation pioneers Hypothesis, Diigo, and Rap Genius. The emergent Overweb is anchored by an open source blockchain called the Overchain that enables a) participants to own and control their annotation data and b) decentralized applications to serve interactions over the web page. Both of which feed AI on the edge that exposes misinformation and catalyzes collaboration on regenerative solutions for the world’s greatest problems.
RSA Fellows Daveed Benjamin and Joshua Armah will present the unknown history of web annotation, the case for the Overweb, the Overweb pattern, and the open source blockchain-based tools they are developing. Dan Whaley, CEO of the pioneering web annotation app Hypothesis will speak on the history of web annotation.
