📚 Silent reading club · OBA Roelof Hartplein · 3–6 people
Details
We meet, we read, we share. A structured Thursday evening at OBA Roelof Hartplein: a short get-to-know-you round, 90 minutes of quiet reading,
then a relaxed closing circle where everyone shares what they're reading
and swaps recommendations. Simple, satisfying, repeatable.
First time?
You'll be looked after — just get yourself through the door.
Feeling especially anxious? Message the host. We've got you.
Friends always welcome.
What to expect:
- Group size: 3–6 people
- Noise level: Low — it's a library. Earplugs welcome if you want extra
- quiet, though it's likely fine without.
- Finding us: Enter via Roelof Hartplein, look for the reading area near
- the café. We'll have a small "Calm Plans" card on the table.
- Arrival window: 17:45–17:55 — we do a quick intro round, then reading
- starts at 18:00
- Leaving early: Always fine, no explanation needed
- Cost: Free — OBA membership not required to sit and read
✨ The Vibe:
The format has a natural arc: meet briefly, disappear into your book for
90 minutes, resurface and tell each other what you've been reading. No
pressure to have opinions. "I'm just enjoying it" is a completely valid
recommendation.
Fun fact:
Reading in a group without talking has a name — "silent reading parties"
have been quietly spreading across cities since the early 2010s. The
original one in New York drew hundreds of people to bars and bookshops.
Turns out a lot of people just wanted permission to read together.

Real people, real plans, real fun.
