About us

Hi, I'm Mark A. Turnipseed, and I'm really glad you're here.

I found yoga while rebuilding my life after addiction, alcoholism, and years of carrying trauma that I didn't know how to put down. Like many people in recovery, I discovered that getting sober was just the beginning. I needed a way to quiet my mind, reconnect with my body, and learn how to actually be present.
Yoga became that practice.

It taught me how to breathe through discomfort instead of running from it. It showed me that strength isn't about pushing harder—it's about learning to be still, to listen, and to trust that healing happens one day, one breath, and one practice at a time.

Today I'm a RYT-200 yoga teacher, a person in long-term recovery, a six-time Ironman triathlete, best-selling author, wellness coach, and co-founder of Halo42. But none of those titles matter as much to me as simply being another person walking this path alongside you.

I created Calm Strength Recovery because I wanted to share the practices that have transformed my own life.

This community is especially welcoming to people in recovery from alcohol, drugs, and other addictions, but it's open to anyone seeking greater peace, resilience, and connection. Whether you're recovering from addiction, trauma, grief, burnout, anxiety—or simply looking for a healthier way to live—you are welcome here.

Together we'll explore practices that nourish the whole person, including:

🌅 The Quiet Hour – Sunday Sunrise Yoga before the beach recovery meeting
🧘 Yoga for Recovery
🌬️ Breathwork
🪷 Meditation
📖 The Yamas & Niyamas of Recovery – exploring ancient yogic wisdom through the lens of modern recovery
🥗 Nutrition for Recovery
🧊 Cold Plunges & Ice Baths
👥 Men's Circles
🎤 Guest Speakers
🌊 Beach gatherings, workshops, and other opportunities to connect and grow

This isn't therapy and it isn't a replacement for your recovery program, it's simply a place to practice together.

Whether you're taking your first steps in recovery or have been sober for decades, my hope is that you'll find what I found—a little more calm, a little more strength, and a community that reminds you that none of us has to walk this path alone.
