About us
Hi, I’m Mark A. Turnipseed, and I’m really glad you’re here.
I found yoga while rebuilding my life after addiction, alcoholism, and years of carrying trauma that I didn’t know how to put down. Getting sober changed my life, but I eventually realized that recovery was only the beginning. I still needed to learn how to quiet my mind, reconnect with my body, and actually be present inside my own life.
For years, I understood strength through endurance. I became a six-time Ironman triathlete and learned how far I could push my body and mind. That journey taught me courage, discipline, and resilience, but eventually I began to realize that I had spent a lot of my life trying to become stronger by constantly overcoming myself.
There came a point when enough was enough. I didn’t want to keep tearing myself down in the pursuit of becoming better.
Yoga became a different path.
It taught me how to breathe through discomfort instead of running from it or trying to conquer it. It showed me that strength isn’t always about pushing harder. Sometimes strength is being still enough to listen. Sometimes it’s softening. Sometimes it’s trusting yourself enough to stop fighting your body and begin working with it.
That is what Calm Strength means to me.
Today I’m a RYT-200 yoga teacher, a person in long-term recovery, a six-time Ironman triathlete, best-selling author, wellness coach, and co-founder of HALO42. But none of those titles matter as much to me as simply being another person learning how to live with greater presence, intention, and connection.
I created the Calm Strength Yoga & Wellness Community to share the practices that have helped transform my own life and to create a space where we can explore them together.
This community is open to anyone seeking greater peace, resilience, strength, health, and connection.
You may be rebuilding your life after addiction, navigating stress or burnout, moving through grief or transition, exploring yoga for the first time, or simply looking for a healthier and more intentional way to live.
You are welcome here.
Together we’ll explore practices that nourish the whole person, including:
🌅 The Quiet Hour – Sunday sunrise yoga by the ocean

This isn’t about becoming the perfect yogi, athlete, or version of yourself. It isn’t about pushing harder or adding another thing to accomplish.
It’s about creating enough space to come back to yourself.
My hope is that you’ll find some of what I found through yoga: a quieter mind, a stronger relationship with your body, a deeper trust in yourself, and the realization that real strength doesn’t always have to be loud.
Sometimes strength is calm.
One Requirement: COME AS YOU ARE.
