The Ventura Land Trust has recently acquired 1,645 acres of land formally known as Mariano Rancho now named the Ventura Hills Nature Preserve. Its boundaries are from the Cross at Grant Park to 2 Trees. With help from a generous donator and from the State of California, the property will soon have public access for hikers, bikers, dog walkers etc. Last Monday was the soft open of the Hall Canyon trail system and I'd like us to hike part of it.
We'll take the 101 Trail from the parking lot to almost the microwave tower. It's about a 2.5 mile climb up along a well defined trail with switchbacks then return to our cars. The elevation, I'm told is about 700 ft. If it is a clear day, it should be a spectacular view.
There is an outhouse in the parking lot, but no water or shade. Predicted temp. is 69f with cloud cover.
