Blockchain analytics:

Hamish Lamotte is a Data Scientist at Elliptic, a blockchain analytics company founded in London in 2014.

Cryptocurrencies have changed a lot since Nakamoto published the Bitcoin paper in 2008. We have seen increasing participation of companies within the cryptocurrency ecosystem, from centralised exchanges, centralised stablecoin issuers through to crypto payment service providers. These companies have to navigate existing Anti-money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing regulation to avoid financial penalties from regulators. The public blockchain ledger data can be analysed to infer and quantify exposure of addresses and transactions on public blockchains to money laundering activity. Hamish will present, at a high level, some of the methodologies used on public blockchain data to detect money laundering.
