Details
Summary:
Setting off from Dullingham train station on the Cambs Suffolk border, we head in a loop to Newmarket a town known for its horseracing. We will pass a variety of terrain, including woodland, fields, horse paddocks, and the race course. The main highlight is joining the southern part of Devil's Dyke. This is a large man made Anglo-Saxon earthwork on chalk grassland dating back to the 6th century. This served as a fortification fronteer against the Britons from the west and safeguarding trading routes to the east with ditches and banks almost two stories high. Walking along the top of it for 4 miles, we will reach Newmarket race course and make our way back to the trian station. Finish in Newmarket round 4pm ish for an optional pub stop at the end. Trains back to Cambridge run 20 mins past the hour.
