Winter Walk in Thetford Forest (14miles - 23km)
Details
Summary:
Setting off from Brandon railway station, this walk takes us on a circular route through Thetford Forest, one of the largest lowland pine forests in the UK. We will pass through High Lodge, follow the Duck and Cover pathway, and explore Brandon Country Park, enjoying a mix of woodland trails and open forest scenery. The route finishes back in Brandon, with the possibility of an optional pub stop at the end if time allows. Potentially, we will be back in Cambridge around 5-6PM.
Logistics: Meet at Cambridge Train Station at 9:10am. We will take the 9:22am train to Brandon, departing from Platform 4 (most likely). Travel time is approximately 32 minutes.
Please buy an open return ticket from Cambridge to Brandon.
Bring: Packed lunch, water, walking kit, waterproof hiking boots, warm layers, and a waterproof jacket.
There will be opportunities to picnic on the grass, but no pubs or shops are expected along the route until the end.
*Reminder* If you are unable to attend, please update your RSVP to allow someone else on the wating list to join.
Terrain:
Predominantly forest tracks and woodland paths. Conditions may be muddy, and winter weather could mean snow in places. Waterproof boots are strongly recommended.
Join the club:
There is a £1 fee for the first walk and a recurring £1 monthly fee thereafter for members. This helps cover admin costs and fund trips for the club. After the walk, the walk organisers will share the details of the club bank account. On receipt of payment, newcomers will be added to the club Whatsapp group by the club organiser.
