Monthly Rust Meetup

Details

Join us for the new and improved monthly Cambridge Rust meetup, hosted at Quantinuum's office on Hill's Rd.

Speaker: Jorge Prendes
Jorge is a software engineer at Microsoft. During the day he writes Rust code to enable running secure WebAssembly workloads in Azure. During the night, he writes Rust, C++ and JavaScript for fun. When he's not coding, he likes spending time with his family and playing board games.

Topic: Running Rust in the browser
Ever wished you could use Rust in front-end development? Well, you can! In 2013 a group of engineers at Mozilla noticed that a carefully crafted subset of JavaScript could be run at near native speeds. They could transpile LLVM bytecode to JavaScript, and eventually compile C++ to JS. This gave rise to what today is WebAssembly. Today Rust is on the forefront of WebAssembly development and is the poster child for running high performance compiled languages on the browser.
