Join us for Sunset Blvd (1950), a dark, satirical film noir directed by Billy Wilder that explores the illusions and decay of Hollywood fame. Widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, it blends biting industry commentary with psychological drama.

The story unfolds through the narration of struggling screenwriter Joe Gillis (played by William Holden), whose lifeless body is discovered floating in a mansion swimming pool. The narrative then flashes back to reveal how he ended up there.

The film is notable for its haunting portrayal of faded glamour, incredibly atmospheric black and white imagery, the self-referential casting of silent-era performers, and an iconic closing line, “All right, Mr DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up.”

As usual we will socialise, enjoying snacks and beverages before settling down to watch the movie. A fun quiz at the end will determine who's done their homework before the film!
