Lab Robots: automation to make science easier
Hear from people in Cambridge who have used robots and automation to make their lives in the lab easier. Talks and demos include:
• Matt Wayland (Department of Zoology) on a fly food dispensing robot hacked from a CNC router
• Cambridge iGEM team on low-cost automated scanning stages for microscopes.
• Tom Hodder on a biorobotics python module to control liquid handlers.
We'll also be collecting ideas for robot projects at Science Makers, so bring along your thoughts on lab tasks that are crying out for automation.
If you have a robot you'd like to talk about and/or demo, contact Jenny on jcm80@cam.ac.uk! Transport of the robot or automation equipment to makespace can be arranged.
plus Open IO labs focus group
Ward Hills (CEO of Open IO labs) is interested to get your views on new Open IO labs products: ways to join together and control laboratory equipment in a plug and play interface for arduinos and pipettors up to microscopes and spectrophotometers. What can Open IO labs do to make their life easier? Possible cake included.

This month's projects:
• Gel electrophoresis tank/PCR machine (DIY Bio group)
• Low-cost XY stage for lab equipment
• Designing sensor training modules to run at Science Makers.
Arduinos and sensors will be available for experimenting.
