Campfire Mapping - OpenStreetMap Online Hangout

Details
OpenStreetMap (OSM) is built by a community of mappers that contribute and maintain data about roads, trails, cafés, railway stations, and much more, all over the world.
The host (Korin) is an experiences Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIS&T) professional who enjoys a good chat about any and all things GIS&T. From how we model the world to make maps and use both digital and printed maps to make decisions, to the philosophies behind defining the boundaries marked on maps and the different models of licencing for data and software. Do maps lie? Are they a communication media that fails or succeeds at distributing an intended message? Do they privilege particular views of the world? What do you consider when using a map?
Whether you have never mapped anything before or have been using maps/GPS/satellite imagery for years, if you would like to get involved with some desktop mapping work for the OSM Project and chat geospatial philosophy while you contribute, come hang out once a month and share your thoughts.
What you need:
- A desktop screen is best, so a desktops computer or laptop connected to a screen. Using your laptop screen is okay, but can be rough on your neck and back for this type of work.
- An OpenStreeMap Account.
- An Internet connection.
- Camera and microphone for joining the virtual room.
If you are new to OSM, there are a number of guides available for getting started, and help will be available during the event but Campfire Mapping is not intended as a training session. If enough people want a training session, we can look at organising an event specifically for this purpose at a separate time.
If you have any questions, you can ask them when you RSVP, or contact Korin through Meetup.
