Scenic Drive/Hike to Crescent Falls

Today's adventure will take us to Alberta's most beautiful waterfall, with a first stop at Abraham Lake.

(a) Crescent Waterfalls.
The day use has several newly renovated platforms for visitors to safely enjoy the views of the falls. The new staircase at the lower platform will lead us to a safe viewpoint of the waterfalls. A new trail from the upper parking lot area will lead us to the day use area. This new access trail is 0.8 km in length and has an elevation gain of 63m and is rated moderate to expert skill level due to the incline.

There is no general parking at the lower day use area or within the campground, however a drop off zone is available.

The Bighorn Canyon Trail begins at the lower day use area. This trail is approximately 3 km long (one-way) and rated to be a moderate hike due to the steep cliff edge. Please be cautious when hiking and ensure you have proper footwear. The end of the trail overlooks Bighorn Canyon at a viewpoint.

A construction advisory is currently in effect from July 7 to July 25, 2025. (enhancements to the main Crescent Falls Trail). Hopefully it will be completed by the 25th so we can enjoy the hike.

(b) Abraham Lake
We will make a couple of stops here to enjoy the lake and scenery.
The drive from Calgary to Abraham Lake/Crescent Falls is about 3.5/4 hrs., so an early start from Calgary is recommended.
Meet the host at the Legacy Trail Parking Lot in Canmore, at 7am.

A park pass is required.

Hiking Pace: slow, beginner level, with lots of stops for photos.
What to bring:

• water, snacks and lunch
• rain/wind jacket and layers; dress for the weather
• good hiking boots/shoes
• hiking poles
• bug spray
• bear spray
• sunscreen/sun glasses
• camera
• most importantly, you are bringing a smile

Waiver: anyone joining this event must sign the waiver form before the start of the event (either at the meeting location or at the trailhead). You must also provide an emergency contact name and number of someone who is not currently joining you in this event.
