Dryden Movie - A Clockwork Orange
Details
## Half a century after its release, Kubrick’s most successful film at the box office is still his most controversial. Set in an ultra-violent future where the only thing more frightening than the roving youth gangs is the therapy used to “cure” them, this startling adaptation of Anthony Burgess’s novel has lost none of its power to outrage and disturb. Malcolm McDowell stars as Alex, the Beethoven-loving leader of a band of “droogs” whose crime spree comes to an abrupt end when he’s sent to a cutting-edge “rehabilitation” clinic. The director himself decided to withdraw it from circulation in the UK after a series of criminal acts allegedly inspired by Anthony Burgess’s dystopian view of a society torn between violence and repression. For the history of cinema, this is also a tour de force in expressionist style, brilliantly complemented by the electronic soundtrack by Wendy Carlos. The George Eastman Museum is proud to present a mint 35mm print, struck from the preservation elements held by Warner Bros. and acquired for our collection through a generous gift from a museum trustee.
