Geology Field Trip: The Genesee River Gorge and Lower Falls
The gorge carved by the Genesee River allows us to see the rock layers under our feet like no other place in Rochester. During this field trip, students will together "read" the 450-million-year-old geologic story of our area from that rock record; identifying different rocks, analyzing rock structures and textures, and perhaps even finding some fossils! Walking this hidden Lower Falls access route will reveal the hidden history of our region - mountains, oceans, glaciers, and all.
Please note: A rain date for this class is scheduled for September 21st from 12:30pm-2pm. Students registering for this class must also be available for the rain date, and will be automatically transferred if weather prohibits class on October 4th. Refunds or exchanges will not be given if students are unable to make the rain date.
This is a 1-mile walking tour (0.5 miles downhill and 0.5 miles up hill) at a slow pace along a slightly inclined, paved path. Expect to be on your feet for the duration of the trip. You are encouraged to bring your own personal water bottle. Please wear clothes appropriate for the weather.
