What we’re about
Do you love walking, dogs and exploring new places? Canberra Dog Walks leads social walks for dogs and their humans showcasing the best of Canberra. We are a friendly and welcoming group that's been running since 2016. Generally our walks:
- last between 1 and 2 hours (3-6 km)
- provide one or more optional off leash opportunities
- start and end at a dog friendly café
- follow a loop with minimal retracing of steps
- feature interesting stuff for humans too, such as beautiful views, quirky sculptures or historic buildings.
We offer more than 30 different dog friendly walking routes all over Canberra, and even a few in Queanbeyan and Bungendore, so it's a great way to explore new neighbourhoods.
All walkers are welcome, with or without dogs. We walk at a relaxed pace for maximum enjoyment. Many of our walks include shorter options for those not wanting to walk the whole route.
Please go to our FAQ page for more detailed information on our walks or message the organiser directly.
Membership of this group is $7.50 per year, due within 30 days of joining, but your first walk is free. Payment of the membership fee can be made directly through Meetup (however the charge will be in US dollars), or by attending a walk within 30 days of joining and paying the walk guide directly (when the charge will be in Australia dollars).
We also ask $7.50 from each adult participating in a walk (except for their first walk as per above). Payment is made directly to the guide, who uses a card reader, when you turn up for the walk. No cash is accepted.
These payments help cover our Meetup subscription, insurance, travel, IT and other costs. The group is run on a not-for-profit basis with any excess funds donated to RSPCA Canberra and the ACT Pet Crisis Fund.
To find out more detail about our fees, please go to our FAQ page or message the organiser directly.

Important
- All walkers participate entirely at their own risk and are wholly responsible for their own and their dog's behaviour. By rsvping to a scheduled walk, you understand and agree to this condition.
- We ask that all participants follow the walk guide's directions, especially in relation to their dogs. For example, individual participants may be asked to walk their dog/s on-leash for part or all of the walk if, in the guide's judgement, it is necessary for the consideration of others in the group, or other members of the public. The guide is using their best judgement, after leading hundreds of walks with many different dogs, to ensure as far as possible that everyone has a pleasant experience.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Wednesday Parliament House walk - spring gardens, views, architectureLennox Gardens, YarralumlaA$7.50
Come explore the little known gardens around new Parliament House on this easy and varied walk.
We will start at the pretty Lennox Gardens car park by the lake; wend our way through an embassy quarter; and then follow a curving path into the usually deserted native gardens planted around the base of Parliament House.
We'll also visit a 'secret' formal garden with lovely vistas across north Canberra, as well as the grand forecourt of the public entrance with more stunning views.
Not surprisingly, this is an on-leash walk only but there’s lots of variety and interest for humans and our dogs - plus intriguing 'wabbit' scents within the native garden.
This is an easy, mainly paved walk of approx 6 km, and with a group will take about 2 hours to complete. There are several public toilets en route.
There's pay parking at the Lennox Gardens car park off Flynn Drive as well as in the Hyatt Hotel car parks.
Important info:

- Saturday Kambah walk - Gruner views, off leash heavenMannheim Cafe, KambahA$7.50
Take a real-life journey through an Elioth Gruner painting on this beautiful walk making the most of Kambah's extensive off leash parks.
As well as huge off leash ovals, we extend our walk through a long park culminating in a pretty view of the Tuggeranong Valley.
The 5 km loop features typical Gruner vistas of hills and mountains at every turn, just like his 1920-30s local landscape paintings. The route is mostly flat, with only one uphill/downhill stretch, and with a group will take 90 minutes to 2 hours to complete. And we won't cross a single road - amazing!
The walk starts and ends at the Mannheim Café, on Mannheim Street near the corner of Summerland Circuit. There's a small car park adjacent to the café and more free parking on street.
This is one of our 'pram-friendly' walks as there's the option to walk only on well-paved paths.
To see more detail about the walking route, go to our website here. But note we are starting this walk at a different location.

- Short Monday stroll in Kambah - mountain views, off leash heavenCafe Blanco, KambahA$7.50
Join us on this easy, short, flat version of our beautiful Kambah walk, focusing on those extensive off leash ovals.
The walk starts and ends at the little shopping centre on the corner of Carleton Street and Boddington Crescent, where Little Theo's Takeaway and Café Blanco reside (note this is NOT the same place we start our long version Kambah walks). There's a small car park at the shops and across the road at the preschool.
The route is approximately 3 km looping around a series of playing fields, with mountain views all around, and will take approximately an hour to complete with a group. We'll be walking across grassy ovals and on some paved paths.
