Short Sunday stroll in Weston and Featherston Gardens

Details
Try this relatively new walk in our 'Sunday stroll' series which features a visit to a 'secret garden' tucked away in a corner of Weston. (Note this walk is scheduled in the afternoon so we don’t walk off leash across the archery club grounds during their beginner’s classes 😉)
The walk starts off on the same route as our usual winter Weston Creek walk. But after the first off leash frolic, we'll head uphill through Weston's quiet streets to reach Featherston Gardens, a hidden and little known park.
Featherston Gardens used to be part of the Canberra Institute of Technology's School of Horticulture and dates from 1974. After the School site closed In 2009, the gardens became part of the ACT's public parks.
After exploring the gardens, we'll walk downhill to reach a flat, long off leash park bordering Weston Creek. Again, walkers who have participated in our winter Weston Creek walk will recognise this relaxing area which is very popular with our dogs.
The route totals around 3.5 km and includes a short uphill section to reach Featherston Gardens, but otherwise is mainly flat or downhill. The walk will take a bit more than one hour as we’ll dawdle and take a break in the gardens. We'll be walking on paved paths and across grassy fields.
The walk starts and ends in the grassy space next to the carpark off Liardet Street, Weston, immediately adjacent to the McDonalds. There’s plenty of free parking and toilets at the McDonalds. There are several dog friendly cafés around the Cooleman Court shopping centre for those wanting to social more over coffee, etc.
