Old Canberra features on this easy walk meandering through the beautiful suburb of Reid. You'll see some of the first private homes built in the new capital territory while strolling through pretty, tree-lined streets and parks.

We'll visit an attractive off-leash oval at the beginning and end of the walk to give our dogs some play time, with the rest of the walk on-leash.

The walk starts and ends at the top of the steps at the front entrance of the War Memorial at the top of Anzac Parade.

We'll have the option at the end of the walk for more socialising at Poppy's café at the War Memorial which has lots of outdoor tables. There are easily accessible public toilets next to the café.

There's plenty of free parking in an underground carpark (directly under the café) accessed via Fairbairn Avenue, and more parking behind the War Memorial off Treloar Crescent.

This is an easy, flat walk of approx 3.5 km, taking around 60 minutes to complete with a group. The route is mainly on paved paths but with some short sections on dirt tracks and over grass through parks and ovals.

Important info:

  • You walk entirely at your own risk and you are wholly responsible for your own, and your dog's, behaviour; by rsvping 'yes' to this walk you understand and agree to this.
  • All off-leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If for any reason they feel any dog should be back on lead, please respect their decision, as they are trying to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience.
  • We ask $7.50 per adult to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk - children (under 18) walk free of charge. The charge helps cover our meetup subscription, insurance, internet, petrol, and other costs. We will gladly refund this if you are not happy for any reason.
