Walking the Psyche:
"The Labyrinth as a Living Map of the Self"
[Celebrating World Labyrinth Day] from 7:30pm
Dr Kirstin Robertson-Gillam
at MacKillop House, 50 Archibald St, Lyneham, ACT (and by Zoom)
The labyrinth is one of humanity's oldest symbols, and, each year, we have celebrated World Labyrinth Day (This year, Saturday 2nd May) with an Dr Kirstin's introductory talk on Friday evening and a Saturday excursion to one of Canberra’s outdoor labyrinths.
Kirstin will talk about Jung’s connection with labyrinths, tracing the labyrinth's journey from Bronze Age carvings and the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur through to the great medieval pilgrimage labyrinths of Europe - and into the consulting room of the modern psyche.
The labyrinth, it turns out, is a remarkably precise map of individuation: the winding, unavoidable process by which we become who we truly are. Along the way, we encounter the Persona, the Shadow, and the still point at the centre that Jung called the Self.
Whether you have walked a labyrinth or simply felt that your own path has been taking more turns than expected, this talk offers a fresh and grounding perspective on the journey inward.
We gather at MacKillop Conference Centre from 7:30pm for music and cuppa and chat and library. Guest Speaker is at 8pm for an hour or so. Then we break for supper, and resume for discussion and questions, finishing by 10pm.
The presentation on Friday night will be followed on Saturday at 12 noon with a walk around the gardens and the labyrinth at the Australian Centre For Christianity and Culture, 15 Blackall Street, Barton ACT 2600. Cost $10. Picnic lunch is provided. RSVP: Jeanne: (0406) 375 670.
