From Server to Service: How Microsoft moved Team Foundation Server to Windows Azure

Speaker: Grant Holliday

Visual Studio Team Foundation Server is a multi-tier client/server application that Microsoft ported to Windows Azure. In this session, you will get an idea of what it takes to take an existing application and turn it into an Internet-scale service. Getting the code running is the easy part - you will learn about all the other things you need to think about when shifting from building a server to running a service, including deployment, patching, monitoring, scaling and testing.

About the Speaker: Grant Holliday is a Premier Field Engineer for Microsoft in Australia. As a PFE he works with customers to perform proactive Team Foundation Server health checks and workshops on Visual Studio Application Lifecycle Management. Prior to this role, he spent three years in Redmond, Washington as a Program Manager in the Visual Studio TFS product group. He was responsible for the internal TFS server deployments at Microsoft, including the largest and busiest TFS server in the world used by Developer Division. Grant shares his experiences managing TFS at his blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/granth/
