About us
Community Connection Canberra is a relaxed Meetup group for simple, low-pressure ways to connect with others through walks, coffee catch-ups, and occasional community events.
The purpose of this group is to create safe, welcoming opportunities for people to get out, spend time around others, and feel more connected in the community. It is supported by Roses in the Ocean, a national lived-experience suicide prevention organisation, and is led by people with lived experience of suicide across different experiences and domains — including suicidal distress, surviving an attempt, suicide bereavement, and caring for or supporting someone through suicidal crisis.
In the ACT, this group connects with our broader work to strengthen connection, reduce isolation, and raise awareness of peer-led support options.
You do not need to come with anyone, and there is no expectation that you attend regularly. Many people come on their own. You are welcome to join once just to see what it is like, come occasionally, or attend more often. There is also no pressure to talk, share personal experiences, or stay for the whole event.
This group may be a good fit for people who want a gentle way to meet others, get out of the house, enjoy a walk or coffee, or spend time in a friendly community setting. Some people may also be interested in learning more about Roses in the Ocean’s peer-led supports, including the Peer CARE Warmline and future community opportunities.
