Sherwood, Two Sticks and the Blue Range Campsite

Details

This is a delightful area for walking in, especially if we get to see the springtime display of daffodils at the Sherwood Homestead site.

We will walk from the gate where the Blue Range Road meets the East-West Road in the Uriarra forest area to the ruins of the Sherwood homestead before doing a loop around Two Sticks Hill and return past the Blue Range Hut. This will be around 11 km. While some of this will be on the old forestry management trails, I hope to mostly use tracks and trails that are not in regular use by motor vehicles.

This walk will be around 11 km and involves about 500 m of climb and I expect it to take about 3 hours. There are two particularly steep sections on the route I am planning, the toughest about 500 m long with a gradient of ~25%. The route is a Grade 3 walk on the Aussie Bushwalking grading scale (https://www.aussiebushwalking.com/grading).

The heritage listing background information for the Blue Range Camp can be accessed here:

and for Sherwood Homestead here:

We will meet at the Cooleman Court car park and car pool to the start point. The car pool distance is approximately 45 km in total. Meet at the NW corner of the Cooleman Court car part near the corner of Brierly and Liardet Sts.

Four places on this walk will be reserved for first time walkers. Note, though, that these places will not be available to a guest of a first time walker. If you are a first time walker, and RSVP with a guest, you do so knowing that your guest may not get a place on the going list.

NB: Those participating in the walk are responsible for their own safety and well being, should be adequately prepared and take sufficient food, water, and warm clothing for their individual needs.
