Topic: Smart Data analytics for traffic congestion management
Abstract:
The presentation will focus on several data-driven and traffic simulation approaches that the Advanced Data Analytics Group (ADAIT) of Data61|CSIRO have been working on in the last years in order to improve traffic congestion. Amongst these we name the origin-to-destination estimation matrix for understanding how people travel around the city, the multi-modal choice analysis for identifying the preferred transportation modes in the city and their robustness to perturbations, as well as traffic simulation modelling approaches for understanding the impact of traffic accidents in the city of Sydney. The ADAIT group is the only winner of the prestigious NSW Premier’s Innovation Initiative in 2015 and also won several ITS Australia National Awards in 2014,2015 and recently nominated as finalist for the research awards in 2018.
Bio:
Dr. Adriana-Simona MIHAITA is currently a Senior Research Scientist and deputy team leader of the “Advanced Data Analytics in Transportation” (ADAIT) team under the Analytics Program in Data61|CSIRO. Her main research focus is how to engage traffic simulation and optimization using machine learning and advanced data analytics to improve the traffic congestion, predicting the incident duration and estimating the urban impact, while also leveraging smart analytics for connected and autonomous vehicles in a smart city environment. She holds several project management and leadership roles in various initiatives such as the “Premiere’s Innovation Initiative” (sole winner of the TfNSW congestion program with the aim of building a cloud-based data platform in transport), the “On-Demand Mobility” trials in Northern Beaches in partnership with Keolis Downer (for releasing a new on-demand and shared public transport service), the Australian-Singapore Strategic Collaboration Partnership (for collaborations between the two countries on solving congestion problems), as well as the Investigation of positioning accuracy of Connected Vehicles operated by the Road Safety Centre in Transport for NSW (TfNSW).
