Gen Z, Free Speech and Intolerance
Details
For the past few years, young people have been portrayed as the “woke generation” — more sensitive, more censorious, and less tolerant of disagreement than those who came before. But is that actually true, or is something more complicated happening beneath the surface?
Our guest speaker, Vinay Kapoor, will focus on Free Speech issues related to Gen Z. He is the Education and Engagement Officer at the Free Speech Union based in London, where he works with young people and students to make the case for the importance of Free Speech.
At a time when political disagreement feels more intense, more personal — and, in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, more dangerous, he will explore why so many young people are finding it harder to tolerate opposing views, and why free speech isn’t just an abstract ideal, but the foundation of open debate, peaceful disagreement, and of a well-functioning society itself.
Join CCC Manchester for stimulating and fresh conversation and debate. We’re a friendly, welcoming bunch, and many folks even choose to stay well past 4pm to continue the discussion! Grab a drink at the bar and come upstairs for some lively, open and honest chat. All good faith opinions are welcomed and respected. We don't charge for our events but we do ask for a small cash donation to help pay for expenses.
