CANOE-CAMP THE IPOLY

Details
FOLLOWING THE REMARKABLE SELL-OUT of our “Canoe-Camp the Garam” trip, we are delighted to re-offer “Canoe-Camp the Ipoly”, enabling others to enjoy our exceptional adventures as we explore the waterways of the mighty Danube.
THE RIVER IPOLY (Ipel in Slovak) is 232-kilometres long, rising in the Slovak Ore Mountains before flowing into the Danube near Szob. The river offers some of the best and most remote canoeing waters in Hungary. The nearby Duna-Ipoly National Park is an unspoilt corner of Eastern Europe.
AFTER THE INCREDIBLE SUCCESS of “Canoe-Camp the Ipoly” in May 2018, this privately organised, bespoke experience is one you will not find in any of the glossy brochures. This short video gives an insight into the hospitality:

“Canoe-Camp the Ipoly” is perfect for beginners and more experienced paddlers alike. Our adventure offers nomadic conditions; sleeping under “canvas”, eating authentic, freshly prepared, Hungarian food around the camp fire and bonding with nature; you will return home invigorated.
Our Hungarian hosts have established their wonderful canoeing and hiking business on the banks of the Danube at Zebegény, a picturesque and historic village in Pest county. The privilege of spending time with Endre and Mariann, their family and friends allows us to gain an insight into the culture, traditions and folklore of both Hungary and Slovakia. Endre (main picture) will lead the canoe-camp adventure whilst Mariann will spoil us with her amazing, authentic and traditional Hungarian cuisine; something not to be missed!
Whilst the Danube may get all the glory, the River Ipoly offers one of the last remaining stretches of a wild river in Hungary, expressing the true state of nature with hundreds of shallows, islands, islets and inner lakes. Unique flora and fauna has evolved with many protected flowers, insects, butterflies and birds; there are herons, egrets, cormorants; birds of prey are often seen circling above. There is a lack of awareness around the beauty of the many watercourses which criss-cross the Carpathian Basin.
All the photos that accompany this write-up were taken on "Canoe-Camp the Ipoly" in May 2018.
