Zoom discussion: Limits to Growth

Details

The 50th anniversary of Limits to Growth has been getting a lot of attention lately, and it was suggested as a theme for our third Zoom meet.

(At the start of the meet there will also be time to check in or introduce yourself, and talk about any current climate or collapse related issues in the news or your life which you'd like to mention.)

You don't need to have read the book; there are a lot of recent articles, podcasts and videos about it, and there have been studies revisiting its analyses in the last few years (for example by Graham Turner in 2008 and 014 and Gaya Herrington in 2021).

- We could also discuss other books on the environment and collapse that have been influential. Which ones inspired you, or woke you up?

- Has Limits to Growth, or content based on it, been an influence for you personally, or people you know? Did it seem like one of *the* books to read when you became aware of accelerating climate change and the possibility of collapse?

- In some ecosocialist circles, the idea of limits can itself be controversial, or at least its implications for climate justice and how it might influence thinking about outgroups. What do you think about this?

If you would like to suggest other related topics, or links to relevant articles, videos or podcasts, please post them as a comment on the event page. Thanks.

Similar rules as on the subreddit: Be respectful to others, no incitement to violence, take the topic reasonably seriously.
