Zoom discussion: The Food Crisis (+ Heatwave)

Details

Food. Can't live without it. Literally.

From the supply chain problems of the covid lockdown years, to the inflation and Ukraine war of 2022, and growing impacts of the climate crisis on harvests, the global food system is not quite what it was.

In Global North countries, there is less variety, poor people are struggling more than ever to afford what's there, and most on middle incomes are economising as money stretches less than before. Geopolitical analysts (e.g. Timothy Snyder, Peter Zeihan) have described how Putin aims to starve, and force migration of, people in parts of the Global South.

How are you managing? What observations and analysis do you have of the situation?

If there are articles or videos on this subject you've found valuable, and might like to discuss, please post them below.

Whilst we do provide space to talk about other collapse-related issues that are worrying you, and understand how things all connect globally as a polycrisis, we ask that you are careful in discussions of US activism at this uniquely concerning time, and about venting which in some cases may be better done elsewhere with American friends. If you frequent the Collapse subreddit, please be mindful of the rules and warnings posted on the SCOTUS discussion threads.

In general, on all topics, please be respectful of others, and no glorification of, incitement to or advocacy of violence
