About us

A group for anyone in Canterbury, Ashford or Sandwich and the surrounding area interested in learning 1940's/50's style Jive or other vintage and swing dances with resident and special guest teachers at our regular weekly classes and special workshops. We will also list the local swing and r'n'r dances and events that we organise.

Weekly drop-in 1940’s/50’s style jive class. Aimed at all levels, beginners always welcome, optional dance partner swapping so you can join without a partner.

£6/£5 reduced (unemployed, retired, student or NHS) per person per class. Cash on the door.

If you’ve not been before come about 30 minutes early to your first class and we’ll run through the steps we’ll be teaching in the main class.

Swing Dance on the Stour

Canterbury’s twice a month swing dance club at the atmospheric riverside Mooring Cafe & Bar, home to the Canterbury Punting Company.

We start each evening with a beginner’s Swing dance class.

Featuring a great mix of Big Band Swing, Jump Jive, Boogie Woogie, Gypsy Jazz, Early Rhythm’N’Blues, Western Swing, Hillbilly Boogie, Broadway and Movie Melodies, Latin, Exotica and Calypso from the 1930’s to the early 1950’s.

No strict dress code but vintage style is always appreciated.

7.30pm: beginner’s swing dance class
8pm-10pm: social dancing

Free entry though any donation to the running of the evening is welcome.
