There was a big Calypso Craze in 1957, but the question in the United States was how to dance to calypso. In 1958 the chalypso (a combination of calypso, cha cha and lindyhop) was created by the dancers on the premier teenage dance television show of the 50s and 60s, American Bandstand. American Bandstand was based in Philadelphia and hosted by Dick Clark and appeared on the televisions across America every weekday. The dancers became legends for dancing the popular dances of the time as well as for inventing their own.

The Chalypso is a fun and easy dance perfect for a variety of music not just calypso and we will show you the basics and give you some ideas of how to improvise your own moves.
