Welcome ladies who want to learn canyoneering/canyoning core skills!!. We provide online and in-person education. We are a not for profit women's organization dedicated to promoting women in the sport of canyoneering through clinics, camps, scholarships, community, and Ladies Only Canyoneering
Festivals. Canyoneering Chicks facilitates the opportunity for women to learn from other women how to become skilled, competent, and self-reliant Canyoneers. Canyoneering Chicks achieves its aims through:

Advanced WaterFall ChickFest 2023

Little Cottonwood Canyon Park and Ride

We will meet at Little Cottonwood Canyon park and ride at 8:00 am. We will be running Great White Icicle Saturday and Stewart Falls Sunday. Potluck Saturday night. place TBD.
Prep meeting 7/27/23 8 pm zoom

Gear

Harness, helmet, minimum 3 carabineers, safety tether, rappel device, no ATCs, good grip shoes, preferably climbing approach shoes or canyoning boots designed for water.

What to pack in your pack

Ultra-light waterproof jacket

Lightweight Prima Loft jacket

Under Armor long sleeve shirt

Microfleece stocking cap

Head lamp with extra batteries

Webbing, 30 + ft, daisy chain

2 – 3 Rapides

2 pairs of gloves, Belay gloves and nylon gloves

Knee and Elbow pads/depends on the canyon

Small first aid kit

Emergency items in dry capsule in dry bag, see emergency list below

Emergency blanket

Snacks, meals

Water, Nalgenes or water bottles, no bladders, they don’t hold up in though canyons

The American Canyoneering Academy recommended signals involve both long and short blasts:

  • 1 long blast = stop/attention.
  • 2 long blasts = off rope.
  • 3 long blasts = help/emergency.
  • 2 short blasts = up rope.
  • 3 short blasts = lower rope.
