Knots: Learn how to tie:
- Double Sheet Bend, Alpine Butterfly, Directional Figure 8, EDK, Stone Knot, Bowline with Yosemite Finish, and Frost knot
Anchors & Rigging: Learn how to construct:
- Releasable Rigging Systems (Figure 8 and MMO and how to lower and re-rig)
- Courtesy Rigging Systems (Static and Dynamic)
- Retrievable Guide Line
- Retrievable Traverse Line
- Carin Anchors
- Deadman Anchors
Anchor Management: Learn the roles and responsibilities of First and Last Person at Risk ( FPAR & LPAR) EDK
- Demonstrating Complete Body Check
Anchor Managememnt: Learn the roles and responsibilities
Ascending and converting to rappel: Learn how to:
- Ascending to pass the knot
- Converting from Ascending to Descending
- Descending to pass the knot
Rescue Skills: Learn
- Converting a static block to a releasable rigging system with a Mariner's Hitch lift hold system.
- 2 to 1 lift system.
What to expect:
- We will be practicing at height! Skills will be practiced with ropes.
- We will be outside; dress appropriately for anticipated weather - closed toe shoes, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, windbreaker/jacket, and whatever else you may need to stay comfortable for the day.
- Bring your lunch, snacks, and min 3L of water, etc.
RECOMMENDED ITEMS TO BRING:
- Climbing helmet
- Harness
- 3 Locking screw-gate HMS carabiners
- Canyon-specific rappel device (ATS, CRITR, SQWUREL) or similar device preferred.
- Figure 8 device
- VT Prusik
- Purcell Prusik/Personal Safety Tether (Adjustable preferred)
- 4 foot sling, or other foot loop
- Ascending Devices : MicroTraxion (preferred), Basic, Croll, Ropeman, etc.
- 5'+ piece of rope to practice knots
