"A Sense of Place"
September 17–29, 202
The Commons, 46 Bradford Street, Provincetown
Opening Reception: Friday, September 19, 5–7pmA group that formed in early 2024 and has been meeting monthly in Provincetown, it's an amazingly talented and diverse group of photographers, all deeply connected to Cape Cod in different ways. Each member explores how place shapes memory, identity, and emotion—so the exhibit is about more than just scenery; it’s about meaning and presence.
Included in the exhibit is work by Emory Petrack MD, with a series of four images titled:
“A Matter of Life and Death: Visual Meditations on Impermanence.”
These photographs emerged from his reflections on aging, his time in emergency medicine, and the moments of transition and vulnerability we all encounter in life.
For more information, visit The Commons: A Sense of Place.
And our group has also published a wonderful hardcover book with images and background from each photographer, with 2 different covers available! Click HERE and HERE to see them.

The Art of Cellphoneography Workshop
NOTE: This workshop is offered through the Cape Cod Art Center. Please register at https://capecodartcenter.org/classes-workshops/cellphoneography-mullen/
The best camera is the one you have with you! And the best darkroom is the one you have with you!
In this three-hour workshop we’ll look at basics of good photographic composition, then take a deep dive into two post-processing apps that every cellphoneographer should be using: Lightroom Mobile and Snapseed. While the images our cameras produce are properly exposed, with good color and sharpness, they are only the starting point of what is possible. By using free applications like Snapseed and the free version of Lightroom Mobile, we can improve upon reality and add our own artistic voice to our images before sharing them with the world. Participants should have a few landscape and a few portrait images on their phones, as well as installing Snapseed and Lightroom.

Every face and every person is a unique photographic subject, and capturing the essence of a person in the camera is a challenge to both our photographic and human skills.
Saturday, Concepts and Practice: In the Saturday workshop we’ll look at camera settings, lighting patterns, posing and prompts to bring out the best in our subjects. We’ll cover available light as well as strobes, reflectors, and DIY lighting. Having studied the concepts of lighting and posing, we’ll take turns as photographers and models with natural light, studio strobes, and DIY lighting to practice what we’ve learned. Participants should bring a DSLR or Mirrorless camera for best results. Cell phone cameras are welcome, though they will be limited in using studio lighting.
Sunday, Post Processing: In our Sunday workshop we’ll take advantage of the newest features in Lightroom and Photoshop that give us immense control over the final interpretation of our portraits. Participants should bring a laptop with Lightroom and Photoshop installed, as well as a basic knowledge of each program.
