Hi Everyone,
We are planning to field trip to go to the outer Banks to shoot the Milky Way at least at Bodie lighthouse & maybe other areas on the islands.

If you plan on spending more than one day up there you may want to go ahead and reserve your room. Sometimes they're booked for the whole summer very early. All of this is still weather permitting to be able to go up there.

You will be ate up by mosquitoes so come prepared. If you have a mosquito net for your body you may want to bring it to help protect you from them.

If you be doing a time lapse style shooting, once the camera is set up, you can sit in the vehicle somewhat close to your camera and be safe from all the bugs.

I'm not sure exactly what day I will be going up there, but would definitely be spending the whole night of what's left in my vehicle in their parking lot which is allowed. I may end up staying two nights up there. You're welcome to check with me to see what days I plan on going up there.

At this point Randy has already reserved his room from June the 4th through June 8th.

If you can afford it and have the time to do so in that time frame, be a nice little mini vacation to go on.

Equipment required or suggested, bug spray, tripod, bug spray, chair, bug spray, lots of batteries, well you know, more bug spray, lol. Intervalometer would be highly advisable unless you have one already built into your camera. Even if it is built in, most of the time the external ones tend to be a little bit easier to use and much more convenient to see the settings without messing up your shots, by having to stop the camera to view them.

As the photo that I used for this event, is one that you can do as in the North Star aligns up with the top of the lighthouse, that will allow you to do a nice star trail of it. So if you have more than one camera it'd be really great to set one up to do a few hours worth of star trailing and then use another camera at a different angle to shoot your steel shots.

There are many ways that you can shoot the Milky Way and get a great shot of it. I've been shooting up for about 10 plus years now, I have my ways of doing it, but it doesn't mean it's the correct way. There are many tutorials on YouTube that are very valuable to watch and learn some of the settings. I don't mind going over the basics shooting it. And some of the free programs that you can download to combine multiple images to make one nearly noise-free clear photo of the Milky Way.

From my past experiences of shooting up there, to me it seemed like June is the best month with the core of the Milky Way lining up with the lighthouse.
