Skeleton Gorge hike in search of some Table Mountain magic - the elusive Disa...

Details
This is a morning nature hike up Skeleton Gorge, towards the aquaduct on top of Table Mountain, and back via Nursery Ravine - all the while keeping our eyes open for the beautiful Disas and birdlife. The excursion will require some fitness and can be regarded as moderately strenuous.
As we climb up Skeleton Gorge, we will be in the shade of majestic Milkwood, Red Alder, Yellowwood, Assegaaibos, Wild Peach and other indigenous trees. We follow the route up Smuts Track to the Contour Path and onwards. Further up there are a few ladders to help one up the rock face. It's well worth the climb as we will start hunting for the bright red "Pride of Table Mountain" - Disa uniflora, as well as the Blue Disa and the bright orange Cluster Disa. We will take a number of breaks to enjoy the ambience, and perhaps spot an Aeropetes tulbaghia. Remember to bring your binocs to spot some birds, and a snack to enjoy along the way. We will descend via the steep Nursery Ravine, and re-join the Contour Path.
To join us, make your way to Entrance 2 (where the nursery is), park and meet Sue and Deon at the Cheetah Sculpture just inside the entrance at 08h00 on Saturday, 11 January 2020. The entrance fee is R75.00 for those without a Botanical Garden Card, and a R20 cash hiking fee to "Nature Nuts".
Along with the usual gear such as water, a hat, sunscreen and good hiking boots, you may want to consider any other gear to haul you up the gorge - some hikers find a walking stick quite useful.
For those a bit apprehensive, this will not be a route march - we intend to let everyone enjoy the outing and will rest regularly. Looking forward to seeing you! No dogs, regrettably.
