‘A business, like all organisms, needs to continuously adapt to changes in order to survive, and if we could somehow describe this, then maybe that would give us a map?’

In the uncertain world that we live in today, creating Strategy is difficult. As the CEO of his own company, Simon Wardley was looking for methods or ideas to help him to do this effectively. He couldn’t find any, so he started to create his own.

He identified specific patterns in how products and markets developed and created a technique to help him see multiple dimensions at once. He wanted to create a map, to enable him to see the climate, landscape and doctrine of his organisation, products, and the larger context surrounding them. Using this map, he could make decisions about his organisation and its strategy.

In this talk, I will explain Wardley’s ideas at a high level and then look at how using Wardley Maps can help not only with organisational strategy but also product and tech strategy.
