Based on Graham Greene’s 1943 novel, this taut spy thriller follows Stephen Neale (Ray Milland), recently released from a mental asylum, who wins a seemingly innocuous cake at a London fair—only to discover it contains microfilm coveted by a Nazi spy ring. As he plunges deeper into a perilous underworld of deceit and danger, Neale must rely on the enigmatic Carla Hilfe (Marjorie Reynolds) and confront his own fractured memories to outwit his pursuers.
