What we’re about
Welcome to Capital District paddlers and Adventurers! Please read this entire page which includes our waiver.
Please note: Capital District Paddlers and Adventurers require PFDs to be worn on our paddles by everyone.
This group is for paddlers of all experience levels, from beginners to diehards. Most trips are for just a few hours but others could be day trips or overnight, we love spending a night or two or sometimes a whole week or more in the Adirondacks and other paddling destinations.
Most trips will be broken down by difficulty level, these levels take things like distance, current, portages and whether or not you’ll have to get out of your boat into consideration. Trips will be rated easy; flat water with little to no current and no chance of exiting the boat, intermediate; longer distances with possibly stronger currents and a chance of exiting the boat for beaver dams or blowdown, and hard; very long distances or strong currents, or the chance of getting out of the boat is high with portages likely. These guidelines should help each paddler stay within their own limits. While we all look out for each other, we expect each person to accept responsibility for their own safety by realizing their limits in their boat. Make sure to ask questions if you are uncertain about what is expected for each event.
Each event will have rules that are posted by the Event Host and each member attending must abide by those rules. Remember that the Event Host is inviting you to join them. Be respectful and be ready to launch at the scheduled time. Posted start times are the time we expect to have all gear unloaded and are ready to be on the water.
Even though this is a paddling based group, our event planners may post other adventures such as hiking, camping or other group activities. Jump in, have fun, make some new friends and we will see you out on the water.
We paddle all year round, cold water kills quickly and appropriate gear such as a wet or dry suit may be required as safety equipment for high risk paddles in addition to a PFD and other safety equipment.
