We'll step back in time to the mid 1700’s and imagine what it would be like to live and work on Mount Vernon, the historic estate of George & Martha Washington.

Join Kim Kelly as she shares her knowledge about capturing historic venues and telling a story through images.
This extensive and majestic property sits on a bluff overlooking the Potomac River. The mansion, while currently undergoing preservation work, is the cornerstone of the estate which features numerous supporting buildings with displays & demonstrations of life in colonial times as well as a working farm.

As we stroll about the estate, Kim will point out interesting elements to capture such as architectural details, historic artifacts, extensive gardens, demonstrations and displays, and many of the livestock (some of whose breeds date back to Washington’s time).

Topics Include:

  • Different perspectives in shooting
  • How to handle mixed lighting situations
  • Implementing good compositional techniques

Recommended Equipment: DSLR or Mirrorless camera, lenses in the range of 18 – 200mm. A polarizing filter if you have one for reducing glare and enhancing the sky.

Entry fee to Mt Vernon is not covered in the price of the class. Tikcets run $26 and will allow for re-enrty through 2025.
