Can Democracy Survive in a "Post-Truth" Age?

Details

On the eve of the November 5th election, we are pleased to host a public philosophy conversation: Can Democracy Survive in a “Post-Truth” Age?

It will be held Wednesday October 30th, at the Albany Public Library’s Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch (148 Henry Johnson Blvd, Albany NY 12210). The conversation will be facilitated by Dr. Michael Rings of the Siena College Philosophy Department and community member Ruchi Patel, JD.
The conversation will begin at 6:00pm and go until 8:00pm (or so).

Our discussion will address a variety of questions including (but not limited to):

In a political climate of intense polarization and entrenchment…
how is rational and productive dialogue across our divisions possible?

In a political discourse riddled with conspiracy theories…
how can we discern what is truth and what is falsehood?

In an ever shifting and complex media landscape…
what should the role of journalism be in our democracy?

In a society that prizes the free expression of diverse perspectives…
is there any place for the idea of “objective” or “universal” truth?

This event is free and open to all.
We look forward to seeing you there!
