Capital Letters – Wellington Writer's Group
with experimental special guest “The Wolf”
Every other Monday night, 7:30pm sharp.
Join our small, welcoming Wellington writing circle dedicated to building a consistent writing habit, sharing fresh work, and soaking up the social electricity of a supportive group with one signature theatrical twist to keep the tension.
What happens each meeting:
We gather every other Monday at 7:30pm sharp.
Everyone writes a short prompt on paper → we swap anonymously.
Interpret the prompt any way you wish — it just has to appear somewhere in your piece.
35 minutes of focused, silent writing.
Each writer has up to 3 minutes to read their work aloud (sharing encouraged but fully optional — pass anytime, no questions asked).
After each reading: 2 minutes of kind, constructive group feedback (always focused on craft, always positive-leaning).
All levels welcome: complete beginners to seasoned writers.
Details:
Small group (typically 6–10)
Bring pen/paper, your laptop and/or phone
Location: [TBA – central Wellington]
Our special guest “The Wolf”
One randomly assigned hidden “wolf” lurks in the group each meeting. It might be you. If you’re feeling brave and crave sharp, surgical feedback on your text only (never on you as a person), you can invite the special guest: “The Wolf” to give you feedback when it is your turn to read aloud. Once invited The Wolf may choose to stay in the shadows... or step into the firelight. If they do:
They begin with a cunning, specific compliment on your writing.
At least two group members call out: “Thank you, nice wolf!”
You reply but only if you still want: “But such nice big teeth you have, nice wolf!”
For 30 seconds maximum, The Wolf is permitted to unleash devastating, text-only critique (no comments whatsoever on your personality, taste, intelligence, life choices — strictly off-limits).
Immediately after, we close with a quick “Pack Howl” round-robin: anyone who wants says one positive note or gentle nuance.
Two designated secret “farmers” also keep watch — they silence everything instantly if they want to (“This farmer tames the wolf”) with no explanation required.
Only one writer a night gets a wolf attack and sometimes everyone is safe.
The overall vibe: Warm, fast-paced, social, and habit-building. This writer's group is about getting words on the page, connecting with fellow writers, and walking away with fresh pages and good energy.
Come write, read, and meet our special guest “The Wolf”. 🌲🐺✍️
See you under the Wellington moon.
