Explore Caerphilly with a Walk and train journey ❤️

We’ll be doing a relaxed but scenic hill walk on Caerphilly Mountain, easily reached by train from Cardiff Central and perfect for a winter day out.

Travel
• Meet at Cardiff Central in time for the 09:04 train
• Arrive Caerphilly at approximately 09:25
• Journey time is about 20 minutes
• Return trains run frequently, so we’ll head back when the walk finishes

The Walk
From Caerphilly station we’ll head out of town and climb up onto Caerphilly Mountain, following a mix of footpaths, open common land and ridge paths. The route offers wide views over Caerphilly, Cardiff and the surrounding countryside, especially from the higher ground.

The walk will be a circular route and will take around 3–4 hours at a steady pace, including short breaks. Terrain is moderate with some uphill sections and uneven ground, and paths may be muddy in places at this time of year.

Timings (approximate)
• 09:04 – Train from Cardiff Central
• 09:25 – Arrive Caerphilly, start walking
• 09:30–12:30/13:00 – Caerphilly Mountain circular walk
• 13:00 onwards – Optional lunch or café stop in Caerphilly
• Return to Cardiff early/mid-afternoon by train

What to Bring
• Sturdy walking boots (waterproof recommended)
• Warm layers and waterproofs
• Lunch/snacks and water
• Any personal essentials for winter walking

This is a great option for anyone wanting big views, countryside walking and an easy train journey, without committing to a full mountain day. Suitable for anyone comfortable with moderate hills and a few hours on their feet.
