What we’re about
About the Group
The mission of this group is simple: to connect hearts across generations.
Cards for Seniors began as a small community project during the pandemic, inviting kids and families across Austin to create handmade cards for seniors living in local care facilities. What started as a gesture of kindness quickly grew into a meaningful movement, one that continues to brighten lives, build community, and remind us of the joy that comes from human connection.
Whether you’re new in town, looking to get involved in something purposeful, or simply want to get out from behind the screen, you’ll find a warm, welcoming space here.
Who We’re Hoping to Meet
This group is for anyone who values connection, compassion, and community engagement—singles, couples, families, locals, newcomers. Unless otherwise stated, all ages are welcome. No prior arts or crafts experience is necessary, and we'll have plenty of samples on hand for inspiration.
What to Expect at Our Meetups
We gather in-person at different locations around Austin (coffee shops, restaurants, and so forth) to create handmade cards for seniors living in nursing homes, and we leave feeling like we've truly connected and created something special together. We bring plenty of supplies and sample cards for inspiration; you bring your kindness and willingness to create alongside others.
Do I need to bring supplies?
Not necessary, but if you have something special you'd like to add or old cards or scrapbook materials you'd like to repurpose, bring them along! We'll have basic supplies, including cardstock, markers, stickers, washi tape, scissors, glue. And plenty of sample cards and quotes for inspiration.
Who receives the cards?
We collect the cards from our meetups and other events and distribute them to seniors living in nursing homes in the Central Texas area. The handmade cards are rejuvenating messages from the outside community, bringing feelings of joy, hope, and companionship to seniors living in isolation.
Why Join?
There's something special about gathering together, sharing creativity, and making new friends face-to-face. Especially when you're creating an impact in the lives of local seniors who will receive our cards and feel remembered, seen, and loved.
If you’re looking to make genuine friendships, spread kindness, and connect with yourself and others, come join us. Let's make cards together!
