What we’re about

This group is for farmers in the valley in Carnation and beyond, that meets up once a month to apply science and technology to agriculture. From new machines, to archiving and preserving old machines for history, to developing new systems using artificial intelligence (Ai).

Our first project is aimed for the 2026 farming season, and is an Elk-be-gone system, that will hopefully drive deer off of farmland. We will be looking at ecological, psychological, and ethical solutions to the problem. Our initial prototype video alert system is available for free on github. Join to get a link to that and our newsletter.

This group is sponsored by the Carnation Agriculture Science and Technology Cooperative (CAST), and is free for the public. We won't be selling any products, but we will be providing lists of components for our robotics solutions we will be providing for Elk-be-gone.

We are founded mostly to drive the pursuit of science, and evolving the wonderful world of agriculture, which has come so far, and is close to being fully automated. This group will discuss the negative sides of AI and automation, especially around human well being. Automate all the fun stuff away, a farmer with nothing to do will not be so happy. Ours is one of the first to make addressing AI and automations negative sides up front.

We will also be developing a farm rover, like the mars rover but for your farm. Stay tuned, and join if you'd like to be a part of the team. Coop membership open to any farmers or contributors in the valley.

Through open source, we will drive advances and optimizations in agriculture through science and technology.
