Details

Rice Pinnacle/Ledford and Boyd Branches Loop

For the safety of the hikers and your pets please leave your furry friends comfortably at home.

Join me on this approximately 7 mile hike with an elevation gain of about 700 feet. Meet in the Rice Pinnacle parking lot at 8:15 a.m. ready to hike at 8:30 a.m. We'll make a large loop using multiple trails. Our route is mostly gravelly forest roads steadily uphill for the first 3-1/2 miles (hardly noticeable), then downhill to the Hardtimes Connector where we'll walk uphill on a narrow trail through the woods for the last mile. This hike is generally easy.

Our pace will be approximately 2 miles/hour. A little faster on the way back. We'll stop for snacks at Lake Powhatan on the fishing deck and take trail breaks whenever necessary. Bring plenty of water, wear hiking boots, hiking poles aren't really necessary on this hike. Carpooling is a great idea.

Directions: From 191 Brevard Road turn onto Bent Creek Ranch Road. Then stay left onto Wesley Branch Road. Turn right onto FS 491 Rice Pinnacle Road and stay straight into the parking lot.

This hike will be cancelled by 6:00 a.m. the morning of the hike if there's inclement weather.
