Hiking Morrow Mountain State Park - Sugarloaf and Morrow Mountain Trail

Details
We’re back with another great hike! We'll be hiking at Morrow Mountain State Park near Albemarle, NC. This 5.7 mile hike will take us to two mountain tops and include scenic views of Lake Tillery. The first mile will help us get loose, then we’ll get the blood moving with an ascent to Morrow Mountain! We’ll cruise back down before starting our climb to the the top of Sugarloaf. Bring a packed lunch for a lunch stop at the top of Sugarloaf.
This trail is rated moderate on Alltrails. Beginners and novices in reasonable shape should be fine. Here is the link for a description and reviews:
What to wear
- Footwear: Closed toe shoes with good traction. Hiking shoes, trail runners, or hiking boots are best, but athletic shoes can work.
- Clothing: Synthetic (non-cotton) clothing is best. Smartwool socks are great for hiking. You may want to bring a hat.

Tips: Make sure to get there early enough for a restroom stop. There is a restroom at the trailhead. We'll be heading out promptly but, if you're running late, you may be able to catch us on the trail. We'll be stopping periodically along the way.
