Hiking Boone Fork Trail Near Blowing Rock

Details

The wildly popular Boone Fork trail is now open! On this scenic five-mile loop, we’ll travel through a goldenrod meadow, hike along a roaring creek, and experience boulders, stairways, and ladders. This trail is rated moderate on Alltrails with a relatively low elevation gain of 554 feet. You will want to come prepared for creek crossings, boulder hopping, and roots. Join us if you can!

What to wear

  • Footwear: Closed toe shoes with good traction. Hiking shoes, trail runners, or hiking boots are best, but athletic shoes can work.
  • Clothing: Synthetic (non-cotton) clothing is best. Smartwool socks are great for hiking. You may want to bring a hat.
  • For a great guide on what to wear for different conditions, check this out at REI: How to Dress in Layers: Tips for Staying Warm | REI Expert Advice

What to bring

  • Water
  • Snack
  • Rain jacket, if necessary.
  • Small backpack
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Phone (for pictures)
  • Fleece (If it happens to be cool)

Tips: Make sure to get there early enough for a restroom stop. There is a porta potty at the trailhead. We'll be heading out promptly but, if you're running late, you may be able to catch us on the trail. We'll be stopping periodically along the way. Don't count on cell service. I recommend downloading offline maps on Google Maps or Apple Maps for easy navigation back home.
